The Taj Cape Town is hosting a monthly themed gastronomic showcase titled Expressions, where local food and wine lovers can enjoy a unique experience tasting hand-picked wines from various selected regions paired with custom fare.
Each month, one of South Africa's top chefs from a chosen wine region is selected to present a four-course dinner on special to express featured region's culture. "Our journey through the world's most beautiful winelands starts at the Stellenbosch Berg, Banghoek and Helderberg wards of Stellenbosch, and, for the month of July, these wines will be married with a unique menu of delicious cuisine prepared by resident chef, Janice Anderson, of Stellenbosch's alfresco dining favourite - 96 Winery Road - at the Taj's Mint Restaurant," says Willie Williams, Taj Cape Town's director of sales and marketing.
Wines paired with the special menu for the month of July include Stellenbosch's top offerings from Annandale, Bartinney Private Cellars, Bilton, Eikendal, Ernie Els, Idiom, Ken Forrester, Kleine Zalze, Kleinood, Rainbows End, Waterkloof, Waterford Estate and Yonder Hill wineries.
Walking tour to heritage sites
The Taj Cape Town is also hosting Footsteps to Freedom, a guided walking tour around key heritage sites in Cape Town's historic city centre, as part of the luxury hotel's unique service offerings. In association with the Only Team, a specialist team of tour guides who provide quality personalised experiences, the Taj Cape Town's Footsteps to Freedom tours will provide locals and visitors to the city an opportunity to learn more about the city's fascinating history.
The Only Team has provided the Taj Cape Town with professional tour guides who will take participants on a leisurely walking tour of sites including St George's Cathedral, the Slave Precinct, the Grand Parade, St George's Mall, Company Gardens and Parliament.
The tour also tells tales of international struggles when observing a piece of the Berlin Wall situated on the Taj Cape Town's doorstep, as well as more uplifting stories, including South Africa's three Nobel Peace Prize winners, who all worked within 15 metres from the hotel itself.
From 28 July to 29 September, as part of the hotel's winter promotion, the Taj Cape Town is offering a Winter Discovery Walk at 10:30am on Saturdays. This special includes the Footsteps to Freedom walk as well as homemade soup and freshly baked bread rolls at the Taj's Mint Restaurant, for only R95 per person.
