Jackie Chan is the new Miyagi

14 Sep 2010 08:40Submit a comment1 BizLike
Martial arts films have always gained my preference and Jackie Chan couldn't have been a better choice for a remake of the renowned 1984-film, The Karate Kid with Daniel Larusso (Ralph Macchio) and Mr Miyagi (Noriyuki 'Pat' Morita).
The famous words in the very first film, 'Wax on, Wax off' come to mind and the 2010 remake doesn't fall short of the same excitement that the film brought back then.

Jackie Chan in "Mr Miyagi" role

Will Smith's son, Jaden Smith (Dre Parker) plays the Karate Kid lead and Jackie Chan steps into the role of 'Mr Miyagi' renamed as 'Mr Han' in the film.

Dre's trouble starts when his mother Sherry Parker (Taraji P. Henson) gets a transfer to work in Beijing. Hardly a week in the city and at a new school, Dre falls victim to a bunch of bullies. Meiying (Wenwen Han) a Chinese girl befriends Dre but this doesn't sit well with his classmates.

Already Dre is beginning to regret moving until he meets the maintenance guy, Mr Han who enters him into a Karate Tournament and promises to teach him Kung Fu for self-defence. Dre quickly learns that there is more to martial arts than fighting and is determined to prove himself when he comes face to face with his peers at the tournament.
