South Africa has outstanding conditions for the utilisation of renewable energy and has therefore set up an energy strategy through its Independent Power Producer (IPP) programme. The two Siemens PV plants will be erected on a one square kilometre area. Siemens will use its 'PVplanet' planning software to optimise the plant-layout along specific - technical and financial - requirements.
The South African government plans the construction of additional projects with a total capacity of 20,000MWp of power generation from renewable energy sources by 2030. Using its strong presence in South Africa, Siemens will contribute to this leading renewable energy program on the African continent, Solarnovus.com website says.
