The Mail & Guardian report says Davies was promoting trade co-operation between South Africa and Switzerland while visiting the country. It quotes Davies as saying that "Africa is on the move", pointing out that South Africa remain's Switzerland's main trading partner in Africa and is perceived as the gateway to the continent. He says that the free trade agreement between the European Free Trade Association and the Southern African Customs Union has led to increased trade but the World Trade Organisation's regulations remain restrictive.
