Record amount collected by Party with a Purpose

A record amount of R260 000 was raised when Party with a Purpose hosted their 6th annual ladies' lunch on Saturday, 3 November 2012 at the Velvet Ballroom in Benoni, Gauteng. Party with a Purpose is a charity initiative which raises funds for various children charity organisations. The money will be used to purchase essential items to be distributed to the charities in time for the festive season and throughout 2013.

What initially began in 2006 as a small group of ladies raising funds for a single organisation, has now escalated into an annual charity and fundraising event that supports five charity organisations and various families in need. With the exceptional support from the local community and various businesses, Party with a Purpose has grown from raising R12 100 in 2006, to an incredible R260 000 in 2012 - a record amount for the event.

Alleviating the pressure

"We started Party with a Purpose with the intention of trying to raise money to alleviate some of the pressure that these incredible charity organisations experience on a daily basis. Never in our wildest dreams had we imagined that our small get-together would escalate into such a huge success. We look forward to an even more successful year next year," said Beverly Verweij, an organiser of Party with a Purpose.

The funds raised will be used to purchase essential items and gifts for the St. Francis Care Centre and Clinic, who provide care for terminally ill patients and abandoned and orphaned children, the Janai Children's Home for physically, mentally and emotionally handicapped children, Kwa-Thema Stimulation Centre for children with disabilities, the Childhood Cancer Foundation, families who are caring for Aids orphans, and the Saint Giles Association for the physically disabled.
