The Gauteng Department of Health is investigating the cause of the fire that broke out at one of the theatres at the Tshwane District Hospital last night, 24 June 2012.
One unused warmer, a roller mattress and ceiling were damaged by the fire.

Gauteng Health Department spokesperson Simon Zwane said no one was injured.

"The fire was contained to one theatre as all doors were closed at the time," he said.

The Department of Infrastructure Development has done an initial assessment and an extensive investigation will be conducted today.

According to Zwane, elective surgeries had been cancelled for Tuesday. However, the hospital will continue to do emergency surgical procedures at its ophthalmic theatre which was not affected by the fire.
