Mercedes-Benz appoints new CFO

Mercedes-Benz South Africa (Pty) Ltd (MBSA) has appointed Bernd Schwendtke as its chief financial officer (CFO). He takes over from Matthias Gründler, who has transferred to Japan.

Having worked for 11 years for the Daimler AG group, six of them in South Africa with Mercedes-Benz Financial Services and Debis Fleet Management, Schwendtke is well acquainted with the local business environment.

In June 2000, he was appointed as chief financial officer for Debis Fleet Management in South Africa, a position he held until becoming CFO of Mercedes-Benz Financial Services in November 2004. Thereafter he moved to Mercedes-Benz Financial Services in Australia as CFO.

“We are pleased that Bernd joins our executive team,” says Dr Hansgeorg Niefer, chairman of the management board of MBSA. “He brings with him considerable experience relevant to all the facets of our business.”
