Baxter Theatre tops award nominationsThe 49th annual Fleur du Cap Theatre Awards take place on Sunday 16 March. The Baxter Theatre (this year's host) received 30 nominations:

Theatre on the Bay, which celebrated its 25th birthday last year, received nine nominations:Sunset Boulevard (5): Lead Actor in a Musical (Jonathan Roxmouth), Lead Actress in a Musical (Angela Kilian), Supporting Actor in a Musical (James Borthwick), Supporting Actress in a Musical (Bethany Dickson), and Costume Design (Penny Simpson); Blood Brothers (2): Lead Actress in a Musical (Bianca le Grange) and Supporting Actress in a Musical (Andréa Frankson); Noël and Gertie (1): Lead Actress in a Musical (Taryn Sudding); and Venus in Fur (1): Lead Actress in a Play (Janna Ramos-Violante). The Artscape Theatre, including the Maynardville Open-Air Theatre, received eight nominations:A Midsummer Night's Dream (3): Supporting Actor in a Play (Terence Bridgett), Supporting Actress in a Play (Hannah Borthwick), and Puppetry Design (Fred Abrahamse and Marcel Meyer); The Milk Train Doesn't Stop Here Anymore (3): Lead Actress in a Play (Jennifer Steyn), Costume Design (Marcel Meyer), and Sound Design (Charl-Johan Lingefelder); and Jersey Boys (2): Lead Actor in a Musical (Grant Almirall) and Supporting Actor in a Musical (Duane Alexander). Alexander Bar received two nominations:
Nominees for Best New Director are Gabriella Pinto, Zanne Solomon, Megan Young, and Penelope Youngleson. Nominees for most promising student are Emma Kotze (UCT), Gantane Gwane Kusch (UCT), Daniel Richards (UCT), Lea Seekoe (UCT), and Dean John Smith (University of Stellenbosch). Additional awards to be announced on the night include innovation in theatre and lifetime achievement. Each prize-winner receives a silver medallion and R15 000. The gala ceremony will be hosted by comedian Alan Committie and radio personality Africa Melane. Limited tickets are available to the public from Computicket.
