So here's the breakfast show on 94.7 Highveld Stereo, the Breakfast Xpress, trying its best to make the City of Joburg smile with its hairnets of
colourful fake flowers on trees down William Nicol Drive and Atlas Road, when along comes Sowetan Live with a
column by Eric Miyeni that should never have been published, dammit. Once again, Avusa's editorial controls have failed; there's opinion and then there's
hate speech. How could the sub-editor and editor allow this to be published? Is it
juniorisation of the newsroom once again?
City Press editor Ferial Haffajee certainly isn't smiling, that's for sure; and publically
announced on Twitter not too long ago that she has decided to sue for defamation, "possibly win and put proceeds into bursary for talented young opinionistas. Good end to sorry saga." (See
Twitter Search.)
Then there's the
offensive Tuks FM breakfast blog post that was
removed but the station has not apologised for it, although the university has found the incident
"regrettable"... What were they thinking?
