Capable of holding a conversation with a CEO of a mining company about its share price, a production manager of an apparel producer about quality control, or debate with a corporate brand manager about cultural vs mindshare branding.

An education and early career in engineering during the 90's yuppie era aroused the desire to make money (saw people around making vast sums), irrespective of whether or not I would make a difference or feel fulfilled in what I did. So I charged into an early foray in marketing, then subsequently sales of enterprise business systems (which taught me a load about how businesses run). A chance to make even more money in the banking sector left me emotionally barren.

I then found something that got my juices flowing. People & Purpose. Establishing graylink and then tribalfish has given me great insights into how brands are defined and how they connect with the psyche. Why businesses need a clear raison d'etre and authentic positioning with people across all stakeholder groups who believe it if they are to achieve the status and success they desire - and deliver on the promise that is the brand.

Some other passions include surfing, snowboarding, road & mountain biking, scuba diving, Hobie & keel boat sailing, water-skiing/ wake boarding, cooking & eating great food, drinking good wine, music, entertaining and local / international travel (>500 cities in 35 countries and counting). I also enjoy the odd round of poker with close friends.

I am curious about diverse subjects and a voracious reader. Having lived amongst diverse cultures in South Africa, the UK and France has only increased this curiosity...
