Rob Campbell

I have always had the good fortune of working with the brightest people in the industry. Gratefully, some of it rubbed off on me.

I heard a radio interview with Ms. Haffajee this morning, and my heart went out to her. What began as a comment on political satire/parody has shown us that the cut inflicted on us during the apartheid years was deeper and more painful than we could have imagined.

Rob Campbell commented on Content marketing: what it is, and why you should be doing it
Thanks for great piece.
Content that is engaging - and relevant to the audience - is the beginning of a brand dialogue.
The only point I wish to emphasise, is that the link between the content and the brand idea cannot be tenuous.
Which is why the principle of have a brand idea that is relevant, different and sustainable is more important than ever before.
Viva the brand idea.

Rob Campbell commented on Zuma and the right to dignity
I agree with your opinion that as a rule, we should be upholding the individual's right to dignity.
However, the art under debate is one piece amongst many, in which the artist/s are making a statement about the moral decay of our Government, and some of its representatives.
Should we not be debating the intent and creativity of the exhibition as a whole - rather than 1 piece in it.
And if the answer is that we should be debating the exhibition as a whole, do we believe that the exhibition has a point to make?

Rob Campbell commented on Gloves off in mobile price war
In my opinion this is not an attempt by the industry to reduce call rates. It seems to be a strategic attempt by Cell C to gain some market share. Vodacom simply applied a simple blocking strategy. In the end the market leader will win this war. If I were Cell C, I would drive brand traction by developing products that increases data-usage in the markets who are consuming more data.

Hello Pasau.

May I infer that you have no regard for MBA's and "brands", or is it that you have no regard for the relationship between MBA bozos and brands.

Just curious

Rob Campbell commented on Is marketing moving with the times?
May I add that the new generation (Millennials) are going to be even less impressed with platitudes and innuendo. The digital age is ensuring that brand propositions are really relevant, and that a promise made is a promise kept. Let the marketer beware.

Rob Campbell commented on Can marketing lift stock price?
Dear Thomas. You open a complex debate in which you ask if marketing has the ability to drive shareholder value, and if so, how do you quantify this value. In my opinion marketing is one of many disciplines, including business strategy, operational strategy, organizational strategy, and brand strategy which when integrated well will drive shareholder value. The extent of the role it plays will change from business to business, brand to brand.
The extent of the contribution is the question we need find an answer for. I do not have the answer, but speculate that we will find more statisticians in successful marketing departments of the future. Rob Campbell. PS. When you find the answer please let me know

Rob Campbell commented on Doctors and pop stars: lessons for ad agencies and marketers
Gillian is absolutely right.
She says that, "...sometimes-dysfunctional relationship that exists between marketers and ad agencies - in fact, between any expert in a particular field, and the clients who pay their salaries.", may lead to to a circumstance in which the Agency is forced to produce work that will not drive business or brand value.
I would like to add that the, "sometimes-dysfunctional relationship" is becoming more prevalent, and the resultant increase in "dysfunctional work" impugns not only the advertiser and the agency, but the whole industry.

Dear OFYt.

The best new business model to come from the ad industry since Old Shanghai.
And it's the right thing to do to get a beleaguered industry back on track.
My best wishes to you all.
