Show profile Hide profileDear Sir/Madam,
Throughout my career in finance, I have implemented systems that captured meaningful data and enhanced decision-making processes. I am equally skilled at general management functions and offer a solid understanding of the business cycle, from marketing and sales through production and distribution. I have worked in diverse industries gaining varied experience in the financial field.
I began my work career in 1980 at Toyota South Africa as a creditor's clerk and worked my way up to senior reconciliation clerk. A better opportunity presented itself for me at Greif South Africa in 1983 where I went on to spend the next 24 years of my career.
I started at Greif as a creditor's clerk but due to my technical savvy I was later appointed to systems support and was soon given the responsibility for all system support in the KZN region. Due to this role, I was given the opportunity to study part time for numerous I.T. diplomas, both in hardware and software.
Although I enjoyed the IT environment, I knew my passion and skill was in accounting so whilst working in system support I also assisted in various accounting functions at Greif such as posting journal entries, maintaining the asset register and GL recons. As I became increasingly drawn in to the financial environment, I was motivated to study towards a B Com specializing in accounting. On completion of my degree in 1992 I was promoted to assistant accountant.
At the time of my leaving Greif, I was responsible for the entire accounting function of 3 branches and some of my core responsibilities included detailed budget and strategic planning as well as the supervision of the accounting and IT department.
In 2007 I decided to venture out on my own doing independent work for small firms. Due to the irregularity and variability of this type of work, I opted to take a permanent position in 2008 at Yokogawa SA as an Accountant/Financial Manager. My current responsibilities include management accounts, debtors, creditors, cash book and staff supervision.
In my current role some of my major achievements include:
The reduction of debtors days from 190 to 45
Clearing the backlog in foreign creditors (33million ZAR cleared in under 2 years)
Local creditors paid within 30 days
Establishing and maintaining a positive cash flow
Created a call account and maintained a positive balance of R5m as well as negotiated a favourable interest rate if the balance is maintained
Auditors comments - smoothest audit in 2010
In summary, my experience includes budgeting and forecasts, cash flow management, control account reconciliations and the daily operations of the finance department. I have been responsible for the management of foreign currency, local and foreign travel, fleet maintenance, month end procedures and close off, capital expenditure, fixed assets and the internal control systems.
Based on my experience and strong commitment, I am confident that I can add significant value to your financial function and I welcome the opportunity
Regards,
