I am a bold, 25 year old Cape Townian, who has a background in Psychology and a passion for community work and social upliftment projects. I completed my Honours in Psychology 2009 and completed an internship to become a registered counsellor with the Health Professions Council of South Africa in 2011. Following this, I travelled Europe for two years and returned to Cape Town with a new zest for life and an appetite for developing my career.
I have excelled in my jobs because of my innate ability to work hard and I bring my creative and unique way of thinking to each project I work on. I possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and I take pride in my ability to communicate well and interact with different individuals. I am a strong team player with the strength to lead by example, and I am flexible and can work effectively within a group. I possess good numeric, administrative and computer skills and, as I have a pro-active and forward-thinking approach to my work, my organisational and time management skills are highly effective. As a result of my exceptional eye for detail, I can always maintain high standards in my work as I can multitask and adhere to my deadlines. Above all, I possess a strong work ethic and enthusiasm to learn, and as I am outgoing and well-travelled, I believe I am well equipped to deal with most work-place problems.
In my most recent postion, I worked as the project coordinator for the Ubuntu Touch Project (UTP), a social enterprise community project endorsed by Archbishop Demond Tutu. Launched by the Medi-Spa Wellness Academy in December 2012, the UTP was conceived as a way to develop skills and create job opportunities for women from disadvantaged communities in Cape Town. Learners of the project are recruited from the townships and trained in the skills on On-Site Corporate Chair massage. In this position, I was responsible for managing and coordinating the administration and logistics of the project including fundraising, marketing and PR, social media, matters relating to learner materials, class schedules and records, and general office administration and management.
I was also responsible for the quality and control of the training provided to the learners, by updating the Academy's policies and procedures including the QMS manual, the learning programmes, assessment, evaluation and moderation procedures amongst other system documents. In addition, I would provide support to the trainers/facilitators and assist in the development of training materials. As the UTP had recently applied to Services SETA to offer local NQF massage courses, I gained valuable experienced in the SAQA accreditation process and process of applying to SETAs.
I am truly passionate about community work and providing support to help bring people out of isolation and give them hope and dignity. I am most alive in a position where I know my efforts are making a difference to help people forge new pathways in their lives.
