| Is this what is called "News" in SA? |
| All this discussion is about 'clever creativity' - nothing about branding, marketing strategy, etc. For me Nando's has always been an overpriced and underspiced offering. Borrowing interest (one of the oldest and most futile creative mistakes in the book) especially from an insurance brand is (how yummy is that!) does nothing to brand the product. I doubt if this self indulgent bit of fun (for the agency) has sold one extra helping of chicken |
| 4 agencies??!! That's a recipe for trouble. I'm not surprised Alan has put everything on hold. |
Your last report said that Sean thought it was "interesting" as I recall.
Anyway, I think it's crap - another vague abstraction that could mean everything or nothing - thus covering everyone's arse What's wrong with the existing line? If your current campaign's not working, it will be for 20 other reasons, before the slogan. A strapline alone cannot re-position a product. But in SA's case there have been so many (provincial) cooks in the kitchen that the existing positioning is ineffective - but not because of the strap!; |
| Sounds fabulous. I was lucky enough in the 80-early 90s to see three different Ring productions at Bayreuth. The live atmosphere is unlikely to be achieved in a cinema, however fabulous the production. Audience empathy and shared transcendental states DO happen! |
Excellent and needed comment! Personally, I don't think that speaking or writing weasel / bull internally is right either. It tends to reflect cut and past thinking - which is no thinking at all - and thus soon becomes meaningless - which sometimes it is intended to be, of course.

| Valete John. I kind of grew up with you over my last 25 years in the Industry. You seemed indestructible and were a unwavering beacon of common sense in an industry sometimes prone to spin, bullshit and self-deception. |
Where do you get your mobile internet penetration in SA of 70% from? According to WWWorx 39% of urban South Africans and 27% of rural mobile phone users are now browsing the Internet on their phones*. Exactly what 'browsing means in terms of time and involvement must be queried given the unaffordable cost of internet 3g roaming to 80% of the SA population.
* (Mobility 2011 research project)
AMPs 2011 data gives last 7 day internet access (via all hardware, total population) at 15.5%. The only category exceeding that was LSM 10 at 67%. You data is misleading and part of the over-hyped penetration of the internet overall in SA. This is Africa, not NY. Also professionals quote their data sources and should be objective, however much they may like or use the technology themselves - this is not a fashion show. It's about reaching markets

All Toyotas have been ugly and overpriced. This one is no exception. But it is a car, with 4 corners and 4 tyres that will cruise to Durban at the same rate as an Aston Martin (assuming the latter's owner does not want to spend the weekend in Jail.)
What is it about S. Effricans, that equates cars with prestige - on roads where anything that exceeds 125 kph is in danger of permanent suspension damage and/or loss of licence. Anyone who spends more than R125 000 on a car is a fool. There are so many more interesting and intelligent choices to spend money on, than this kind of sub-intellectual emotion. I see idiots with R600 000 cars playing subtle drag races between traffic lights, wasting fuel and enjoying less pleasure than a quick wank. I feel very sorry for them. |
