Nokia in Kampala have, through Clear Channel Independent's Uganda office, secured the advertising rights for the face of the Postal Building in Kampala. Measuring a massive 200 square meters or 20 x 10 m, it is the largest billboard face in Uganda. It is located in the heart of major retail shopping areas and is illuminated at night. "This allows Nokia 24 hour visibility for business people and shoppers during the day and hip clubbers at night," says a CCI's Uganda GM, Deon Viljoen.
There have been several attempts to install electronic advertising signs in the city of Kampala but all of them have been largely a failure as advertising media. This is because the busy crowd will not stop long enough to read their messages which keep on changing rapidly. In my opinion these signs serve more as a decoration than serious advertising media. In fact written advertising signs are much more effective in derivering the message to the targeted group. So be aware before you commit huge sums of money to this project.
