ThisDay launched on 7 October - will it survive?

It is a national daily at R3.00/issue. Will advertisers support it? How does the first few issues look? The focus is quality news with daily copy from the London Times and New York Times. Sharing African focused content with the Nigerian This Day should also raise the quality and reduce costs.

Of course!-
Who cannot survive on quality? Especially if they will be sharing quality content with their Nigerian counterpart and other international newspapers.

This could be the start of a truly African wide newspaper. Posted on 9 Oct 2003 09:55

so far so good-

the quality and content of the paper far surpasses some of the present dailies. There is no doubt it stands a good chance of surviving. The design is user friendly and easy to read.

though on a negative note, i can't seem to shake the feeling that there seems to be some elements of Sunday Independent in the package. But overall I'm quite impressed. Posted on 9 Oct 2003 13:20

Quality of printing-
The Quality of printing is bothering. Advertisers might be sceptical. Yet, Other dailies seem to have the same proplem and are surviving. The outlay seems great and it's about time that we have a African perception on current affairs. All of the best to them. It's a brave move to launch another daily in a very competative market. at last -
Well done This Day, at last an alternative to the very poor quality The Star has been dishing up over the last couple of years. The market is certainly ripe for an intelligent daily. This Day is a broadsheet and presents broadsheet journalism,The Star on the otherhand is a broadsheet dishing up tabloid journalism.

Viva This Day viva. Posted on 10 Oct 2003 10:47

A Fine read-
It is my opinion that ThisDay will be creating its own niche.

At this stage it reminds me of a cross between the Sunday Independent, Business day ,the Beeld newspapers and FinancialTimes. More indepth reading but with excellent layout and readability clearly factored into it.

If they choose their distribution points carefully they can create and grow their market share.

Well done, so far! Posted on 10 Oct 2003 13:30

Fully behind it-
For too long the readers have been denied substance by those who peddle sleaze. I am fully behind ThisDay as it has shown that it can offer us cerebral stuff.
Let them keep it this way and we'll keep voting for them with our rands.
The paper is like M&G on a daily basis. Let them keep it up!! Posted on 15 Oct 2003 11:39
Everyones needs competition!-
Its good to know that there is competition in our competitive industry today. The quality of journalism is appreciated. A Special thank you This Day! Keep them coming!! Posted on 28 Oct 2003 01:39
