Barbara Wildenboer: Canaries In The Coal Mine
[Kelly-Eve Koopman] At first glance, the bustling, buzzing crowd outside the Erdmann Contemporary Gallery made it look like a Long Street club on a Friday night. But the ironic wearing of Doc Martens, the selection of anachronistic hats, the brocade waistcoats, and raised glasses of red wine soon identified the crowd as artists, art students and art fundis gathered for the grand opening night of Barbara Wildenboer's Canaries In The Coal Mine. 18 May 2012 08:30
The Burn
[Sarale' Bock] To those who have been and experienced the life-changing transformation that occurs in this space, it is referred to as the "AB" or "The Burn". And it burns all right; it burns all day and all night with the most culturally diverse, creative and conscious beings, all there to share a beautiful space and with the intention to gift. 15 May 2012 10:23

Storm Thorgerson, the last great surrealist
[Sindy Peters] Raised in a home that had Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and the like, regularly blaring from our record player, I'm not new to the enigmatic album art of Storm Thorgerson. On hearing the opening of the Raging Storm exhibition in Cape Town, I jumped at the chance to meet the man behind the fascinating surrealism, and possibly make an addition to my budding art collection. 2 Mar 2012 07:58

Decking the walls with tattoo-inspired art
[Sindy Peters] People adorned with tattoos are usually fascinating to those who are not. To some it's frivolous fun, a means of rebellion, a challenge to your pain threshold, a need to stand out from the crowd, or a way to express who you are. For some, however, it's an art form; some people like to hang art on the walls of their home, some like to carry their art with them, wherever they go. 27 Jan 2012 10:34
We are Beautiful Losers: when art meets music
[Sindy Peters] Art and music collided in Woodstock recently at We Are Beautiful Losers #2, hosted at /A Word of Art in Woodstock. Derelict Woodstock is still coined as "up and coming"; I'd like to think she's just about ready to be crowned a fully fledged member of the Cape Town creativity club; well, that's if Ricky-Lee Gordon, aka Freddy Sam, has anything to do with it. 23 Jan 2012 09:09
