Maritime industry expo and job summit to address skills shortage

According to The New Age, almost 10000 delegates, including pupils, parents and unemployed graduates, as well as government departments and maritime businesses, are expected to be at Durban's Moses Mabhida Stadium for a four-day careers expo and job summit hosted by the South African Maritime Safety Authority (Samsa).

The event comes a few days after Transnet CEO Brian Molefe announced that Transnet would spend R4.7bn on skills development to train marine pilots, engineers and harbour masters, among others.

Samsa's CEO, Tsietsi Mokhele, said that the job summit would provide an opportunity for decision makers in the public and private sectors to discuss job and placement opportunities in the maritime sector and all of its sub-sectors, reports The New Age.
