Luxuriously renovated Ritz Hotel to open in time for festive season

Spearheaded by Nicky van der Walt, CEO of the Shimmy Luxury Collection, the historic Ritz Hotel in Cape Town has been undergoing an extensive R110 million makeover. The iconic hotel with 212 luxurious bedrooms will open its doors in time for the festive season, boasting a host of luxury designs and amenities to ensure guest have a unique tailored experience.

The interior design of the rooms can only be described as a covetable collection of provocative glamour. The design elements consist of a combination of marble and brass furnishings with smoky and textured finishes throughout.

The room configuration will consist of the following ensemble:

48 City Rooms
106 Deluxe Rooms
50 Luxury Rooms
Seven suites and three luxurious sky villas

The top of the Ritz will revolve again with celebrity Chef Bertus Basson’s innovative yet accessibly extravagant dining experiences bringing new life to the city’s only revolving restaurant.

Located on the floor immediately below the revolving restaurant, a spectacular champagne bar will be enchanting guests with breathtaking views of the Atlantic Seaboard.

The plush pool area complete with new decking and an outdoor bar service which flows from the new first-floor restaurant is the perfect place to unwind in grandeur and enjoy a relaxed Cape Town Summer.

The Hotel will also be opening a nightclub on the basement level once all the necessary impact assessment studies are concluded. It will be an exclusive club hosting world-renowned DJ Black Coffee in a first time ever residency capacity, adding to the vibrant Cape Town nightlife.

State-of-the-art conferencing and event facilities that can hold up to 1,000 guests are available for reservations immediately and once fully upgraded, will transform into the perfect spot to mix business and leisure. All five conference rooms are positioned to allow for the flow of natural light and breakaway options are available on a separate level within The Plaza.

The fitness center, Switch Playground, powered by athlete Steve Uria will ensure guests maintain physical fitness throughout their stay. Phase two of the development project will see The Ritz Plaza transform into an upmarket retail component with a strong pipeline roll out plan for the upliftment of the entire precinct.

The pre-opening team comprises the collective resources of seasoned campaigners, duo Clayton Howard as general manager and Philma Gomes as group director of sales and marketing. Both Howard and Gomes bring a wealth of experience from the hospitality industry that spans over many years.
