Short film to boost Mpumalanga's film profile

31 Jan 2013 07:45
EMBALENHLE: Mpumalanga continues to be a movie-making hub with the recent production of a short film called The Bishop. The Bishop, a movie about a man of the cloth who loses his faith in God when his wife can't conceive a child, was shot on location in Embalenhle recently.
Department of Culture, Sport and Recreation spokesperson, Sibongile Nkosi, said: "As a department we believe that this short film will pave a way for other short film producers to come and tell our stories in the province."

Mpumalanga has already been the location for Hollywood movies like Blood Diamond and Catch a Fire.

The main character in the movie, the Bishop, is played by e.tv soap actor Luthuli Dlamini, who plays Stan in Scandal.

Dlamini said although there was not enough money for the movie, it was a stepping stone to exposing talented actors from the province.

"We have high hopes Mzansi Magic will screen the movie. I also believe that film producers from around the world will finally think of coming to invest in local talent," he said.

Scriptwriter Emmanuel Nkosi, 35, said the movie was about tense confessions between the Bishop and his wife.

"The Bishop decides to cheat on his wife with one of the female church leaders while the wife also cheats with the Bishop's brother in order to conceive," said Nkosi. "The message is to urge married couples to stick to their faith to avoid similar incidents."

Nkosi said he and his team raised R100 000 from their own pockets to make the production of the movie possible.

The department sponsored the filmmakers and actors with accommodation, meals and transport.

One of the camera crew members is Aggrey Klaaste's son, Langa, who is from Gauteng.
