Tassenberg presents Stellenbosch Woordfees

The spectacular annual Woordfees will be taking Stellenbosch by storm from the 6 - 14 March 2009. This unique festival is celebrating its 10th year and has much to offer, from entertaining music to ground-breaking drama and inspiring poetry to interesting exhibitions.

This year brings a superb musical line-up of South African artists at the Dorpstraat Theatre sponsored by Tassenberg, to delight audiences from all walks of life. Audiences can anticipate eight thrilling performances from the likes of Koos Kombuis, Valiant Swart, Anton Goosen, Lize Beekman, the Orange Stilettos, Danie Niehaus, Gert Vlok Nel and Riku Lättia at the chic and trendy Dorpstraat Theatre in Stellenbosch.

South African's multitalented icon and legend, Koos Kombuis, will be kicking the stellar line-up into full swing on 6 March. With influences including Bob Dylan, Neil Young and George Harrison, audiences can look forward to Koos Kombuis' quality lyrics and raw style that has made him the guru of Afrikaans rock music.

Stellenbosch based duo, the Orange Stilettos shall be performing on 7 March. The two rising musicians, Liezel Fourie (lead vocals) and Marise Landman (vocals and pianist), create a sound that is an eclectic combination of elements ranging from classical, jazz, cabaret to country and rock.

On 9 March, acclaimed singer and songwriter, Lize Beekman, shall be performing at the Theatre. Beekman, a much loved and respected artist, will entertain audiences with her enchanting voice and soothing sounds.

South African singer Riku Lätti will be performing on 10 March.

With a diverse musical range, from rock to pop and even hip hop, one may definitely look forward to Lätti's enchanting melodies combined with wise and humorous lyrics.

Festival-goers will be in for a treat on 11 March, when South African legendary rock and folk singer Mr Valiant “Die Mystic Boer” Swart will be taking to the stage. The South African star and the 2008 South African Music Award winner for Best Afrikaans Traditional Music Album (with OIlie Viljoen), shall spellbound his audiences with his phenomenal and renowned lyrics.

“Sweef soos ‘n arend” singer, Danie Niehaus shall perform on the 12th of March an awe-inspiring show with his incredible vocal range.

Anton Goosen, who has been credited for writing the first Afrikaans rock song “Blommetjie gedenk aan my”, will be playing on 13 March. Festival-goers will be entertained with by a legendary musician and songwriter who has been active in the music scene for the past 30 years.

The talented singer and poet Gert Vlok Nel will be playing on 14 March, for the final leg of the festival with his invigorating acoustic performance. One can look forward to Nel's innovative style and delightful tunes.
