Henry thinks about quitting

After the controversial hand ball that knocked Ireland out of the World Cup, French international Thierry Henry is considering ending his international career.
After the play-off in Paris last Wednesday, the Barcelona striker speaking to L'Equipe newspaper said that he felt abandoned and alone after the game.

Being asked if he had considered retiring from his international career, Henry said:

"Oh yes. On Friday when everything had gone too far.

"I was really upset - and not for the first time. After the World Cup in 2006, I considered that but it was too early.

"After Euro 2008 also, but it was not the right moment. There was a new generation who needed me. It just wasn't possible.

"Despite everything that happened last week, the way I felt abandoned, I will never let my country down."

Henry admitted after the game that he used his hand in setting up the ball to pass it William Galls who scored the equaliser in extra time, which was enough to send the Irish packing. This all led to a call from Ireland for the game to be replayed, which FIFA ruled out due to the World Cup draw, which take place in Cape Town on 4 December.

Henry suggested replaying the game after suffering the same sort of defeat against Liverpool while still playing for Arsenal. He did regret celebrating the goal, claiming that he was caught in the moment in what was an intense encounter against Ireland.

"I shouldn't have done that, but quite honestly it was just out of my control," he said.

Asked if this incident will affect his career permanently, Henry said:

"Quite honestly no. I don't think that all I have achieved in my career up until now will be spoiled by this."
