The only South African-based chef invited to take part, Gorgosilich will join seven other star chefs in the prestigious gastronomic event where the kitchen of the resident chef, Dieter Koschina, will host some of the most resounding names in world gastronomy, all of whom have been distinguished with stars in the Michelin Guide.

Signature menu

At the gourmet festival, which is one of the biggest in Europe, each chef will present his signature menu, to include at least seven courses, along with suggestions for wines to pair with the meal.

The Vila Joya boutique hotel restaurant is set on a cliff overlooking the Portuguese Mediterranean coast and the gourmet festival has attracted some of the most indisputable names in the gourmet world, such as Dieter Müller (2007) - considered to be one of the greatest chefs of the present - and Christian Bau (2008), the youngest ever to obtain three stars, amongst many others.

Quest for a star

“It's a great honour for the Grande Roche that Roland has been invited to participate as from what I understand Bosman's is the only restaurant attending that does not have a Michelin Star - which is our ultimate quest!” said the Grande Roche Hotel's food & beverage manager Alan Bailes. “It's also an exciting time for South Africa considering we are in the global spotlight with the World Cup coming up.”

Originally from Austria, Gorgosilich was promoted to executive chef at the Grande Roche and it is under his hand that the hotel's restaurant, Bosman's, has retained its sheer culinary class and where guests are assured of classic cuisine infused with modern imagination and innovation.
