“Polisiekar” mellows out for Kirstenbosch

I had heard stories of how previous Fokof gigs at Kirstenbosch had gotten a little wild and how the usual classy and chilled Kirstenbosch concert had been all but taken over by a rowdy bunch of youngsters chucking beer bottles, ignoring the no smoking rule and moshing around the stage. So with this in mind I prepared myself for a rough Sunday afternoon. The concert however, was quite sedate with only a few water bottles being tossed by Francois into the smallish crowd gathered round the stage.

Not to say that the lack of apparent excitement did anything to deter the band from putting on a great show. Kirstenbosch is such a great setting for any band to showcase their skills and allows the listener to truly appreciate the music and lyrics. It was great to see Fokof in this setting as usually at their gigs you're more swept up in the moment and the hyped response from their fans and more concerned with avoiding getting elbowed in the head than actually just listening to the music.

Playing songs that spanned their seven-year long career including all the much loved favourites, Fokofpolisiekar seemed to impress their diverse crowd and caused a mini and heated debate between two friends of mine on the role of bassists and lead guitarists.
