On the 3 December 2009, creative agency Joe Public will be raising awareness and funds for AIDS and HIV empowerment at its annual Rock4AIDS concert featuring Prime Circle and Josie Field. The concert will be hosted by John Vlismas at the Alexander Theatre in Braamfontein.
"Rock4AIDS has always been enormously supported by South African musicians who give freely of their time to support this global issue," said Pepe Marais, Joe Public's executive creative director. "We urge our peers, colleagues, marketers and communicators to spread the word and support this worthy cause. Fender Musical Instruments has also very generously donated a Fender guitar for us to auction on the night - so this is one party that is really going to make a difference in someone's life."
Apart from the critical education and monetary assistance being raised by the Rock4AIDS Foundation, the team at Joe Public have been working very closely with the educators and learners at the agency's first adopted school, Forte High in Soweto.
Working with teachers
Working side by side with the teachers, Joe Public and the staff of Forte High School set measurable, individual goals for themselves. Challenges have been identified, and each head of department has been put in charge of a specific issue, such as: drugs, interaction with parents, open discussion, respect for property and, of course, HIV/AIDS.
With the help of corporate sponsor CTM, renovations are about to begin on the school's bathroom facilities and a full study bursary will be awarded to the top student of 2009, with five more learners benefiting next year. In addition, the agency sends teachers on paid-for life skills workshops to assist them in tackling difficult issues with their learners.
Tickets are R280 and can be booked through Computicket.
