New ports boss wants to boost efficiency
Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) chief operations officer Phyllis Motsatsi Difeto said while the TNPA had "eager and good people" on its team, the operational performance of the ports could be strengthened and improved.
Ship turnaround times for Eastern Cape harbours increased slightly from March to September, according to the company's latest results.
As chief operations officer, Difeto is mandated to manage the operations of all eight commercial ports in South Africa.
Appointed in September, Difeto said she wanted to enhance efficiencies to help drive down the cost of doing business in South Africa. She planned to do this through operational and administrative areas - including stronger governance, clear lines of accountability and responsibility and integrated planning and operations monitoring.
A graduate in maritime law with a magister legum (LLM) from the University of Johannesburg, Difeto also holds a Master of Commerce in Maritime Law from the University of KwaZulu-Natal.
