Team Bonitas partners with French professional team

Team Bonitas, one of South Africa's most successful professional men's road cycling teams, announced a partnership for 2013 with French professional team La Pomme Marseille, SAinfo reports.

The partnership between the two International Cycling Union (UCI) Continental-graded teams will enable Team Bonitas, which comprises only South African riders, to compete in some of the highest-level races in Europe during 2013.

Team Bonitas' owner Malcolm Lange, who oversaw the team's domestic racing scene domination between 2009 and 2011, registered it as a UCI Continental team for 2012. During two six-week stints of European racing in Spain and Portugal the team performed admirably. Bonitas then signed former Cycling SA's Barry Austin, who attracted the attention of La Pomme Marseille as a possible partner.

According to SAinfo, Lange said in a statement that creating a partnership with an established club and professional team like La Pomme "allows us to aim for the same objectives more cost effectively," while enjoying "the benefits of the instant infrastructure of a respected community."
