How exactly should businesses approach the phenomenon of BYOD?

As the popularity of the bring-your-own-device (BYOD) model grows and the desire for people to use their own mobile devices for work purposes increases, corporate networks are going to be accessed by a greater variety of devices than ever before. How can IT managers deal with the resulting need to increase the protection of company data?

Samresh Ramjithi, General Manager: Technology and Operations, Security Solutions at Dimension Data, says, "there is no silver bullet to information security. There is a lot of planning that is involved, but most organisations do not have a clear policy on how to manage or protect the information they have."

Furthermore according to Dr Kgomotso Kganyago, Chief Security Advisor, at Microsoft, the key to maximising IT security while maintaining or increasing workplace productivity is to control access based on the user, the level of trust you have in the device and the business impact of the information.

Both Dr Kganyago and Samresh Ramjithi will be speaking at IIR'S 2nd Annual Mobile Security & BYOD Summit on 15, 16 and 17 October 2012 at the Hyatt Regency, Rosebank, Johannesburg, as they discuss and present solutions for the BYOD and information security challenges currently facing the majority of IT professionals .
