EC, SA Space Agency in scientific cooperation agreement
7 Dec 2012 08:19
The European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC) announced that it has signed, on 6 December, a cooperation agreement with South Africa's National Space Agency (SANSA) to use SA's remote sensing technologies to monitor atmospheric, terrestrial and marine environments.
The JRC-SANSA agreement - signed during a high-level meeting convened to discuss the need for scientific collaboration in order to improve disaster anticipation and resilience - aims for a better understanding of the dynamics and evolution of our natural environment.
These insights are achievable through an optimal exploitation of Earth observation and the development of technologies and services that support national and international issues and policies related to disaster risk reduction, early warning and emergency management.
