Sasol opts for BrightSource's solar thermal technology

Following a worldwide review of solar energy technologies, leading global integrated energy and chemicals company Sasol has selected "Power Tower" concentrating solar thermal technology from Oakland, CA headquartered BrightSource. The company said in a statement that it will conduct a comprehensive front-end engineering and design (FEED) study for the South African market.
Sasol aims to be part of plans to more-than double the country's total energy generation over the next 20 years to exceed 85 gigawatts - including 18 gigawatts of new renewable energy.

Today, said John Woolard, President and CEO of BrightSource Energy, 85% percent of South Africa's power needs are generated with coal. The country has great solar resources which can be used to meet its growing industrial power needs.
