Parsons Brinckerhoff appoints new MD

Engineering firm, Parsons Brinckerhoff, has appointed Ian Maclean as managing director for its Southern African operations, taking over from Gavin Young.

"We are happy at Ian's arrival as a member of the team," says Chuck Kohler, chief operating officer of Parsons Brinckerhoff's Asia, Australia-Pacific and Southern Africa region. "Ian has transferred from Balfour Beatty where he has held a series of increasingly senior operational and executive positions in the power and rail businesses since 1998."

A chartered mechanical engineer with an MBA, Maclean has had an interest in Africa for some time which has been fueled by the engineering challenges that exist long with the developmental benefits of infrastructure improvements.

Maclean has experience in projects such as the supply of steam turbines to Majuba, Tutuka, and Duvha in South Africa, the design and supply of the tallest electricity transmission towers in the world at the Yangtze River Crossing in Jiangsu Province in China and also transmission line projects, including Scotland Ireland Interconnector 275kV, Vale of York 400kV as well as substation projects including Peterhead 400kV in the UK.
