Property auctions still successful

The Rawson Auctions franchise in the Western Cape has reported that it has sold three properties in the Cape area in one week.

Those who predicted that auctions would be a temporary flash-in-the-pan phenomenon in the Cape property scene, brought on by the recession, are now being proved very definitely wrong, says Tanya Jovanovski, the company's franchisee for the Western Cape.

"In one week our team has sold three properties. These were a Plumstead home with three bedrooms, which achieved a price of R920 000, a Bishopscourt home, which was sold for R2.8m and an apartment in Faerie Glen Mews in Heathfield for R360 000," says Jovanovski.

In all these cases, it is clear that the buyers got good value, but the sellers were not disappointed because they now recognise that South Africa is in a very different market to that of 2007/2008.

She added that 'one of the joys' of auctioneering is that one is not limited to any particular product.

"Although we have specialised in properties, particularly those which otherwise might have had to be sold off under liquidation, we have also branched out into a variety of other fields such as antiques, art, furniture and industrial equipment. We are asking clients to bring us more of these in the near future so as to give us a wider portfolio," she concluded.
