After exhibiting their work in Malmö, Sweden, one of the last chances for South Africans to view the designs of the Fresh Talent finalists will be at the Green Hub in Durban. The Fresh Talent competition, hosted by the Eco Design Initiative invites young people to design sustainable solutions for a range of challenges faced by people and the environment.
The exhibition officially opened on 1 August and will be showcasing the designs and concept prototypes of the 2011/2012 competition. The exhibition also offers the opportunity to view global examples of sustainable design curated with INDEX: Design to Improve Life.

The winners of the 2011/2012 competition are Gabriele Birkenmayer for Shoots - a grassroots bamboo project (first place), Wayde Dyers for his Vermiculture Growth System (second place), and Marieke Adams for the Ikghuphu Sleeve (third place).

Janine Johnston, CEO of Eco Design Initiative said: "We are extremely proud of our finalists and the diversity of their designs, which range from industrial design to graphic concepts. This exhibition marks one of the last stages in the 2011/2012 competition but also marks the start of the Sustainable Design Roadshow. This is where we travel throughout the country to schools and educational institutions creating awareness of sustainability and design and invite people to enter the 2012/2013 Fresh Talent competition."
