Mascot launched to assist in Keep Kruger Clean campaign

The Kruger National Park (KNP) has launched the "Vukani the Vulture" mascot as part of its ongoing Keep Kruger Clean campaign. The mascot will assist in keeping the KNP clean by influencing people to change their behaviour about littering in the park.

The Keep Kruger Clean campaign has been running for the past six years since its launch in 2006. The objectives are to create awareness in the park and outside about the dangers of littering and to educate visitors about the importance of a clean environment. "We want to involve communities, staff, business associates and society at large to help us to keep the Kruger clean," says Lucy Nhlapo, head of tourism and marketing at KNP.

This year the Keep Kruger Clean campaign was held at the Punda Maria, Phalaborwa, Orpen, Numbi, and Crocodile Bridge gates, while the main event was held at the Kruger gate. The events allowed children from the neighbouring communities to participate at the gate closer to them.
