Implats losing about R400m a month
Implats marketing executive, Derek Engelbrecht estimated that about 10 000 workers have been re-employed by the mine but said he "could not give precise figures".
In a separate development, Zwelinzima Vavi urged striking mineworkers to return to work when he addressed them at a mass gathering in a stadium in Freedom Park.
Meanwhile, the Sowetan warns that there are "worrying signs" that the violence that has marred the strike action will carry on for some time. It quotes one of the striking miners, Moeketsi Nongabe, as saying that if management do not meet their demands, "we'll burn the shaft (number four shaft) and their buses."
Nongabe claims that most workers take home about R3000 a month and "that is not enough."
