The awards are held by in partnership with Business Connexion and Business Day and aim to recognise and showcase innovative companies and individuals who are frontrunners in their fields.

Facilities already built in South Africa include circumcision clinics for CHAPS in Sasolburg and Soweto, using the Clinic-in-a-Box solution. The company's success with these clinics has resulted in its being awarded preferred supplier status for new clinics going forward.

Matthew Blewett, Chief Investment Officer at Business Connexion said that no longer are only large companies leaders in innovation. "Innovation is being democratised. Dr Sibongile Gumbi, one of this year's judges at the awards and Group Executive at the Technology Innovation Agency, says that all industries should be looking at technology as a mechanism of improving efficiencies, operational effectiveness as well as their competitiveness: "It is important to embrace technology and in the end see these innovations in the market."
Also a judge and Editor of Business Day, Songezo Zibi said that as much as Africa's enormous economic potential is recognised, it is only through successful innovations on varying scales that this potential is realised and sustained. "I am honoured to have been part of promoting the SA Innovation Awards; it is a valuable tool that the newspaper supports and I look forward to seeing further innovative ideas for our economy."
