Gavin Hurling
Confident, well rounded, warm and friendly describes me perfectly. I love working with numbers, recons, balancing and thrives on an environment which is able to offer me a challenge. I believe that my academic studies and work experience have given me a good understanding of the accounting field and an opportunity to consolidate theory and practice. I consider myself as a lateral thinker who has a good understanding of figures and the ability to work accurately and meet deadlines.
I can describe myself as a good leader, strong on systems and believes in mentoring and coaching those around me, so that they may empower themselves to do better.

I consider myself as a lateral thinker who has a good understanding of figures and the ability to work accurately and meet deadlines. I have has been exposed to the manufacturing, retail and financial services industries.
I currently hold a Bachelor of Technology (Bus.Admin) degree and a National Diploma in Management as well as a Business Development Programme from Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) which includes Level III Accounting, Management Practice, Financial Accounting, Financial Management, Economics and Strategic Management. I have more than ten years experience in financial accounting/analysis.
I have opted to become an independent Accountant and the reason for this was to simply gain sufficient experience to make me a more rounded Accountant and also to fast track my career. I believe this decision has improved my skills levels such as organization, logical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
I was employed at Grassroot Soccer SA (NGO) as the Finance and Grants Manager and part of my duties included the Management of the day-to-day activities in the finance & grants department. I was responsible for maintaining controls and systems, managing the accounting system, management of key stakeholder relationships (donors, banks, auditors, tax authorities, board, and private sector partners, and government departments), management of the budgeting and budget tracking process, staff supervision and motivation (5), drafting financial statements according to IFRS and RSA GAAP, conversion of financial statements according to USA GAAP for the US HQ, training and building capacity of staff, supervision of the preparation of management reports, performing business and financial analysis as required.
Developing relationships with people and gaining their trust is one of the things I strives for as I believes this is a definite must when dealing with clients. Computer packages: Pastel, SAP, VIP Payroll and advanced Excel.
