Media innovation challenge offers R100,000 in seed funding and incubation support

Aimed at Western Cape Universities, the Challenge is designed to unleash innovation in the video entertainment value chain (production, processing, distribution and consumption). MultiChoice is interested in finding new ways to:

    • Collect and analyse the behaviour and preferences of consumers

    • Create content

    • Provide entertainment

The partnership will be driven by the LaunchLab’s Breakthrough Innovation Platform to capture new ideas and business models that can change the future of media. This includes the business incubator’s ideas and lift-off programmes that allow corporates access to external breakthrough innovations in their industry.

Philip Marais, CEO of the Nedbank Stellenbosch University LaunchLab Business Incubator, said that this is an exciting partnership for the LaunchLab and enables a focused innovation approach.

“We have been running the Pitching Platform for more than three years and many good ideas have been pitched in the Paid Media vertical. However, this year participants in the Paid Media vertical will have an opportunity to showcase their business ideas to MultiChoice and, if successful, win a share of over R100,000 in seed funding and incubation support in the Nedbank Stellenbosch University LaunchLab facility. This is an awesome opportunity for any aspiring entrepreneur,” said Philip.

Workshop for participants

LaunchLab, on behalf of MultiChoice, will host a two-hour workshop on 3 March 2016 where participants can learn more about the media-focused challenge and engage directly with MultiChoice. This workshop leads into the Pitching Platform where the judges will look for ideas with business potential that will move towards the next breakthrough innovation in media.

Interested entrepreneurs and innovators are invited to join the workshop and find more details about the Pitching Platform on our website: www.launchlab.co.za/multichoice.
