The eight selected finalist teams will be invited to Las Vegas, Nevada, USA by Schneider Electric to present the case challenge solutions for intelligent energy management that they have worked on with their mentors. Thereafter the winning team will be given the opportunity to travel to Boston, Massachusetts, to visit Schneider Electric’s offices, network with employees and interact with high level management, and tour MIT and Greentown Labs.

Energy efficiency and sustainability challenges

Zanélle Dalglish, Schneider Electric’s head of sustainable development and academy, Anglophone Africa Cluster, says, “Within a South African context there are many challenges relating to energy efficiency and sustainability, which is why we believe South African students are perfectly poised to bring home top honours in this global competition. We invite our bright young engineering and business students to apply their minds to this challenge and put themselves on the path to a very bright future.”

Teams must comprise two students (in at least their second year) studying engineering, business, physics, computer science, mathematics and other sciences. They must be from the same country or region for the duration of the competition and at least one team member must be a woman. The deadline for submissions is the end of February 2020.
