Super Group, Safika merger approved

The Competition Tribunal has unconditionally approved the Super Group and Safika merger.

Super Group‚ is active in the planning and management of all activities in the supply chain such as procurement‚ transporting and warehousing of goods. Some of the products it transports are dry bulk powders like cement as well as frozen and chilled food products.

Safika Logistics‚ through its subsidiary Safika Oosthuizens Transport‚ provides logistics services relating to the transportation of coal‚ chrome‚ sand‚ stones and animal feed in tipper-truck vehicles.

According to Super Group‚ it would like to enter and expand into the tipper-type sector of the logistics market‚ hence it wished to buy a share in Safika Logistics. Safika Logistics‚ on the other hand‚ wanted to realise its investment without disinvesting in the company.

The Competition Commission assessed the transaction and concluded that it was unlikely to cause a substantial lessening of competition and had recommended that the deal be approved without conditions.
