Debut album from Cape Town's Suburban Menace

Cape Town hip-hop act Suburban Menace's debut album "Sub-Conscious" was launches toay, Wednesday, 30 September 2009. The members of Suburban Menace have been friends since childhood. Drawing on their experiences of life in the skeems the crossover album is a musical allegory for issues facing the young today.

With songs such as Anti-Virus tackling the AIDS pandemic and the lack of self-protection to, Never Again (I am African), which is sung against the backdrop of the South African National Anthem and samples Madiba's speech, the album explores real-life issues with thought and poetic empathy.

For the fans

"We have been working on this project since 2007 and have taken our time in creating an album that we are 100 percent happy with," said Marvin Levendal, "This is for our fans who have supported us for many years and, with this album, we hope to give back to the youth and put out positive messages that will inspire them to aspire to reach their dream, just as we have done."

Hip-hop as a music genre is often associated with gangsterism, but the crew from Suburban Menace, who consider themselves a gang, but in a positive way, hope to inspire the young to live their lives responsibly, keeping out of trouble, whilst at the same time having fun.

"Sub-Conscious" will be launched at Stones, Kuils River. Tickets cost R30 or R70 (including a copy of their CD). The show will feature live performances of songs from the album as well as guest appearances from Chad Saaiman and Ready D.
