Tassenberg Legends Live Series in April, May 2009

The Tassenberg Legends Live Series is coming to Stellenbosch, Pretoria, Bloemfontein and Potchefstroom this April and May. The Tassenberg series presents great live performances from an eclectic mix of maverick performances by notable South African musical artists.

Audiences can look forward to exciting live stage acts from Zinkplaat and Die Melktert Kommissie on the 7th April at Aandklas, Stellenbosch; Tidal Waves Featuring Piet Botha on the 9th April at the Steak ‘n Ale in Pretoria; Mr Cat and the Jackal on the 15th April at the Mystic Boer in Bloemfontein; Glaskas and Mr Cat and the Jackal on the 16th April at Pablo's in Potchefstroom; Andra Unplugged on the 22nd April at Die Boer, Durbanville; Van Coke Kartel and Foto na Dans at Tings ‘n Times in Pretoria on the 28th of April and Ashtray Electric and Die Rebellie on the 7th May at Pablo's in Potchefstroom.

High flying rock and roll band, Zinkplaat will be at Aandklas in Stellenbosch on the 2nd of April. With an EP and two full-length albums behind their name, Zinkplaat are definitely paving their way to success in the local music scene. Joining Zinkplaat on the evening will be Afrikaans “folk rock” band, Die Melktert Kommissie. This band which was formed in 2002 is headed by the lovely Lucinda Strydom and is a pure demonstration to South African music.

Reggae band Tidal Waves and highly talented rock legend Piet Botha create combined song writing sophistication with their lyrics. Fans can enjoy a fantastic collaboration of these two music entities and be sure to witness a collective musical masterpiece. Their unplugged show can be seen on the 9th of April, at the Steak ‘n Ale in Centurion, Pretoria.

Glaskas came into existence after winning the 2004 competition for the Eastern Cape's Rockspaaider Battle of the Bands. After releasing their first album, Revolusie, Romantiek, Ruk en Rol, as students in high school, the band has since gone from strength to strength, injecting South African music with fresh sounds.

The avant-garde band, Mr Cat and the Jackal perform with an array of different musical instruments, such as the xylophone, glockenspiels, the accordion, a lap-slide, the melodica, to only name but a few. The experimental acoustic rock with a bit of blues band will bring a new musical experience for all to the Potchefstroom music scene. Be sure to diarise the gig on the 16th of April at Pablo's in Potchefstroom for both these superb acts and also the 15th of April for Mr Cat and the Jackal at the Mystic Boer in Bloemfontein.

Singer and songwriter Andra known for her sunshine harmonies and guitar-led melodies will be at Die Boer in Durbanville on the 22 April for an unplugged musical session. Andra who heralds from Namibia with her unique voice and intense performances is definite must for all music-enthusiasts.

Two of Afrikaans's rock masterpieces, Van Coke Kartel and Foto na Dans will be hitting the ambient Tings ‘n Times in Pretoria on the 28th of April. Van Coke Kartel which is made up of Francois van Coke (Vocals and Guitar); Wynand Myburgh (Bass) and Justin Kruger (drums) exploded onto the music scene in 2007 and are surely not a live performance to miss out on. Described as a “slick dose of rock ‘n roll that will sucker-punch you between the eyes and leave you dazed and pushing repeat” by Levi's Music Mag. Foto na Dans is also playing on the evening with a concoction of hard-hitting tracks.

Fresh new sound, Ashtray Electric produces a delicate mixture of foot-tapping beats and rolling riffs. Drawing from a large selection of musical styles and genres, Ashtray Electric, has begun an unstoppable momentum which has started to set them above the rest in the local music scene. Accompanying Ashtray Electric, on the 7th May at Pablo's in Potchefstroom, will be the ever-favourite duo Die Rebellie, who consists of El Rebel and Bella Bazuidenhout.
