Old Mutual Encounters presents Freshlyground and Cassette

The Old Mutual Encounters Concerts is excited to present Freshlyground at Emmarentia Dam, Joburg Botanic Gardens on 4 April. This concert is brought to audiences by Jacaranda 94.2 and will also feature performances by Cassette, Hot Water and more.

On Jacaranda 94.2's involvement with the Old Mutual Encounters Concerts, the station's marketing manager Lulu Ndevu comments: “Jacaranda 94.2 is committed to bringing more music to its listeners and in showing our commitment, the station will start playing more music than ever before as from March. With this initiative, which has been dubbed Jacaranda 94.2 Longplay - more music, more often, strong emphasis will be placed on promoting music, especially that of local artists and our involvement with this event is a wonderful addition to this initiative.”

Bandile Mngoma, Old Mutual sponsorship consultant, says Old Mutual is proud to invest in the development of arts and culture in South Africa and in the lifestyle of its current and potential customers.

“The encounters also provide tranquil environment for families to interact with friends and family and most importantly - its an outing that involves the whole family,” adds Mngoma.

One of South Africa's most celebrated bands, Freshlyground offers a unique blend of enchanting melodies and harmonic compositions. Incorporating elements of jazz, blues, folk and traditional African music, Freshlyground delivers a diverse and innovative mix of music styles. Lead singer Zolani Mahola, also offers an unforgettable musical experience for all, with her distinctive and breath-taking vocal performance.

Cassette, winner of the South African Music Awards Best Rock Album category in 2007 will also be headlining on the Saturday, with their timeless tunes and explosive stage performance. This incredible rock band that have supported international artists including Pink, Evanescence and Eagle Eye Cherry are definitely guaranteed to get music lovers up and dancing to their tunes.

Afro fusion band Hot Water, consists of five dynamic musicians, whose sound ranges from Hopping Blues, to Modern Folk Ballads and uplifting South African beats. The Cape Town based band, which was formed in 2005 under the leadership of Donovan Copley, has risen rapidly in South Africa, with their vibrant and captivating musical performances. Concert visitors can definitely look forward to an engaging mix of authentic and vibrant songs.

So be sure to pack a picnic basket and bring the whole family to enjoy an afternoon of great authentic South African musical acts.

Tickets are available via www.tunegum.com for R50 and at the gate R70. Patrons are urged to buy tickets before the time. Should the concert be rained out, the ticket may be used for any of the other Encounters Shows at Emmarentia Dam for the same monetary value. Also, please remember that no alcohol, glass or cans will be allowed into the venue - there is a fully stocked bar on site.
