As GM, Gawie takes over from one of South Africa's most respected hoteliers, Graham Vass (who will be relocating to the UK to become GM of Ellenborough Park in Cheltenham from 1 July, 2010) and joins the group with invaluable hotel-management experience, having worked at prestigious properties such as the Lake Pleasant Hotel and Spa, Fancourt Hotel and Country Club and, more recently, the Vineyard Hotel & Spa in Cape Town.
Having travelled the world over and hosted numerous dignitaries during the course of his career, Marx has come to understand the needs and demands of the top-end traveller and his mantra is to "deliver the best service possible".
"I am excited to have been appointed in this highly sought-after position as GM at The Grande Roche," Marx said. "With the job comes great responsibility, but I love challenges and I am sure that with the team in place, we will ensure our guests have a world-class experience."
