Deputy President in drive to rally support for FIFA Confederations Cup 2009

In a drive to promote the upcoming FIFA Confederations Cup 2009, encourage maximum attendance at the tournament and galvanise support for the national team Bafana Bafana, the Deputy President of the Republic of South Africa, Ms Baleka Mbete, will on Tuesday 14 April 2009 visit SAFA House and Soweto.

The Deputy President's visit takes place in her capacity as the Chairperson of Government's 2010 Inter-Ministerial Committee, which is the body comprising of all the 2010-related South African Government departments responsible for the delivery of Government's 17 guarantees to FIFA for the successful hosting of the 2010 FIFA World Cup™.

The Deputy President will depart from the SAFA House headquarters of the 2010 FIFA World Cup Organising Committee South Africa (OC) at 09h30 by open top bus for brief stopovers at the Baragwanath Taxi rank precinct and Jabulani Mall, where she will engage with residents about the FIFA Confederations Cup, before ending her Soweto visit at Maponya Mall, where she will - accompanied by former Bafana Bafana captain Lucas Radebe - visit the FNB branch at the mall to do a mock application for tickets for the FIFA Confederations Cup.

The Deputy President will be accompanied on the visit to Soweto by members of the Cabinet responsible for the delivery of the 2010 FIFA World Cup and by OC and South African Football Association representatives, including 2010 ambassadors Mark Fish, Philemon Masinga and Doctor Khumalo.

The Deputy President will then return to SAFA House at 12h00 for a FIFA Confederations Cup 2009 promotional event.
Media wishing to accompany the Deputy President's delegation to Soweto need to be at SAFA House at 76 Nasrec Road, Nasrec Extension 3 by 09h00 on Tuesday 14 April to board the bus travelling to Soweto. The bus will return to SAFA House for the start of the event at SAFA House at 12h00. Media wishing to attend the event and accompany the delegation must RSVP to or by Monday 13 April.
