Ensuring that transporters are aware of their responsibilities is essential to continue to develop a successful working relationship between transporters and dealers.
The workshop empowered attendees with information around compliance and their duties according to the Plan. Transporters also received training on providing quality service, safe driving skills and tyre tips.
"We endeavour to make sure that the work we do has a lasting positive impact on the many lives of the people associated with us. The aim of our transporters' programme, amongst others, will be to equip South Africans with skills that will make their lives better for years to come.
"In the time that we have been operational, we have been overwhelmed by the number of enquiries as to how people can get involved in the REDISA Plan. It is encouraging to see how South Africans are seeing that there is worth to be found in waste, and we look forward to bringing more registered transporters into the fold as the Plan continues to roll out," says REDISA Director, Stacey Davidson.
All transporters involved in the REDISA Plan meet stringent criteria, and are subject to a vetting process. The transporters are only appointed in areas where infrastructure, such as depots, has been developed.
As at the end of October, REDISA had opened 26 depots across the country and registered 149 SMMEs, and as the REDISA Plan continues to roll out over the next five years, more SMMEs will be supported nationally.
