For the year to 30 June 2013, the group has donated R138,000 to CANSA to assist it in its ongoing fight against cancer. The cash comes from the group setting aside a donation every time someone buys a cup of tea or coffee at one of the 21 Road Lodges around the country. Since 2001, the group has donated more than R1.2m to CANSA through the "Cuppa for Cancer" programme.
During the six months to end June, online bookers at hotels in the City Lodge Hotel Group selected
Hospice to the tune of R62,600 and Food & Trees for Africa for a total of R40,500. Guests tick the charity beneficiary box when making an online booking and the group sets aside a donation on their behalf.
At a ceremonial cheque handover function held at City Lodge Hotel Fourways on Tuesday, 12 November, Peter Schoeman, divisional director for sales and marketing at the City Lodge Hotel Group, said the group was very happy to be aiding extremely worthy causes in such a meaningful way, by making donations on behalf of their guests.
