Researchers in the USA who provided children in the first to fifth grade with Gummy Bears containing xylitol have found a reduction in the oral bacteria associated with plaque formation on the teeth.
The children were provided with Gummy Bear snacks three times a day during school hours - the sweets were randomised to contain either xylitol or mannitol.
Children who received the sweets containing xylitol had a significant reduction in pathological oral bacteria.
