GL events collaborate with Johannesburg Expo Centre for Mandela Day 2019

As part of the Nelson Mandela Day initiative, GL events South Africa collaborated with the Johannesburg Expo Centre (JEC) and various other sponsors during the month of July and converted an additional two classrooms into libraries at Riverlea Primary school and Inkwekwezi Primary School. The sponsorship included refurbishments of the rooms, flooring installations, the provision of bookshelves, furniture and books for both libraries.

This follows a successful handover of the first two classrooms that were converted into libraries in 2018.
Riverlea and Inkwekwezi primary school have previously been adopted by the JEC as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in an effort to empower the youth and inspire change in the surrounding communities. A lot of work has gone into the schools over the years ensuring that both school's infrastructure is renovated and maintained, ensuring a friendly learning environment for the children.

The Chief Executive Officer of the JEC, Craig Newman echoed at both handover ceremonies the continued commitment by both JEC and its sponsors in continually improving both schools and ensuring a healthy and safe environment for the children. He further encouraged the children to stay focused and work hard in their grades so that tomorrow they would be the ones extending a helping hand to others in need.

GL events are delighted to have been a part of an initiative that is aimed at shaping the future leaders of tomorrow. The much-needed donation will benefit a substantial number of learners who attend the two schools and further encourage a generation of readers.
Nelson Mandela Day is internationally understood as a call to action that celebrates the idea that everyone has the power to transform the world and the ability to make an impact. The notion that teamwork makes the dream work comes into play as we saw various organisations coming together to making the library project a success.

As we continue to lead in our spheres may we remind ourselves to continually strive to promote and protect human rights, encourage a culture of continuous learning in our youth and join hands in the fight against poverty.
