As the New Year was rung in with many a Facebook post declaring hatred for 2012 and high expectations for 2013, I gave pause to reflect on the past year. While 2012 certainly had its fair share of trying and atrocious moments, these are not the first things that spring to mind when I think back. No, the first things I remember are the good times I had and the great people I met along way. Not exactly being the eternal optimist, this came as a surprise to me. But things really are only as good or bad as we make them. Even if we've loved and lost, hurt or failed, we can still choose what we take from each experience. So as we kick off this new year, be prepared for all manner of snakes and ladders, and when they trip you up or take you to new heights, don't ever forget to see the lesson behind it all. And to those who had a truly revolting 2012, may this year be your lucky 13! Wishing you all much success and happiness... Bring it on!
